    This is a Santa Clara County program that helps people solve their own problems. The program teaches communication skills and the basics of conflict resolution. (408) 792-2314
    Project Sentinel This is a group of city programs that provide free mediation for community disputes, like tenant/landlord, neighbor to neighbor, consumer, and workplace. Sunnyvale, Milpitas, Gilroy, and Santa Clara each have programs.

    Campbell Rent Mediation Part of Project Sentinel. Campbell renters and landlords can get free information and advice about their rights and responsibilities under California and local laws.

    Pro Bono Project Family Law, consumer and debtor rights, home foreclosure. Call: (408) 998-5298
    Bay Area Legal Aid Society They can help with housing, public benefits, health access, and domestic violence. They give high quality legal services to low-income people regardless of their location, language, or disability. There are 7 Legal Aid offices in the Bay Area that work together.

  4. Appealing a civil case

    The state court has prepared a manual, available online, that describes in simple terms the civil appellate process. The manual will help persons who are representing themselves, but can also be used by lawyers or anyone looking for information on civil appeals.

  6. Modest Means Panel

    The Modest Means Panel is for people with legal problems who can't pay standard attorney's fees. If you qualify, the Modest Means Panel can match you with a lawyer that charges lower fees. These lawyers specialize in:

  7. Superior Court's Self Service Center

    You can visit the Self Service Center for free help in person from Court legal staff. If you have a Court case already, you would need to bring a copy of all the papers in your Court file. The Self Service Center web page has information on location and hours. There is a children's waiting room for parents to use who have business in the Superior Court's Notre Dame courthouse, where the Self Service Center is located.

    You can also get help from a Court attorney through the CourtMobile, which operates at various times and locations in Santa Clara County.  Click for the the latest schedule times and locations.
     

  8. More Free Legal Services

    In addition to the Superior Court's Self Service Center, in the previous section, you may be able to get free legal services from the National Legal Services Corporation (like, Legal Aid Society and Legal Services Foundation). They provide free legal services for civil cases (not criminal cases) for people who do not have enough money to pay for private or low-cost legal services.

    Legal Services Corporation National list of legal services programs and locator. LSC funds 179 legal aid programs around the nation to help poor Americans have equal access to the judicial system.
    Legal Services of Northern California California's website for poverty law issues. Also has links to other legal referrals. Legal Services of Northern California helps poor people, families, and communities in 23 counties in Northern California.
    Legal Aid Society A self-help website that lets you create ready-to-file court forms for many kinds of civil cases, including:
    • Paternity
    • Domestic violence
    • License Denial
    • Small Claims
    • Eviction cases
    • Divorce
    Public Interest Clearinghouse Lists legal services programs in California and Nevada, like volunteer legal services groups, law school clinics, and public interest groups that focus on civil liberties and housing discrimination.
